Gibraltar Chief Minister Peter Caruana, the Spanish Foreign Ministry’s Director General for Europe and North American Political Affairs, Luis Felipe Fernández de la Peña, and the UK Foreign & Commonwealth Office Director for European Political Affairs, Tim Hitchens, led the delegations at the meeting.
The participants discussed the progress being made by the working groups that have been meeting on each of the six areas of environmental issues; financial services and taxation; judicial, customs and police co-operation; education; maritime communications and safety; and visa-related issues. The meeting noted with satisfaction the progress that had been made and agreed a timetable, including further meetings of the working groups, to conclude possible agreements to be made by the Ministers at a meeting before the end of the year.
The meeting also discussed other currently topical issues and events and agreed to maintain open lines of communications in relation to issues that may arise.
The meeting also agreed to consider ways of establishing a regular dialogue with environmental Non Governmental Organisations in Gibraltar and in the Campo.
