Ship Registry
The Gibraltar Ship Registry is a reliable – and rapidly expanding – Register. With more than 180 ocean-going vessels on the Register, amounting to over 1 million deadweight tonnes, nearly every type of commercial vessel is represented on the Gibraltar Registry.
It is a Red Ensign Category 1 Register and enjoys the support of Gibraltar’s first-rate legal and fiscal environment. It is the only Register of this group, other than the UK, which is a member state’s Register within the European Union that allows the ship owner to fl y the Red Ensign – a symbol of safety, environmental protection, quality and high standards that is recognised throughout the world.
Gibraltar is a member of the European Union and its Ship Register is recognised by the EU. Freedom to move cargoes within the EU area under the cabotage agreement may therefore be enjoyed by ship operators.
